CakeBomb was a multimedia group comprised of Tom and a number of mutual friends, established in 2006.

History[]

CakeBomb formed as an idea in 2006 at Long Road Sixth Form in Cambridge, England, encompassing eight students: Thomas Ridgewell, Chris Bingham, Mina Lavender, Rosie Smith, Thom Kerr, Ruth Noakes, Abi Hunt, and Rosie Ball. The name came from an unused URL owned by Mina’s mother, and the group was formalized once the url cakebomb.co.uk was purchased.[1]

The group finished Sixth Form mostly intact, though Rosie Smith, Thom, and Ruth departed by 2008. At this point, each member began university; Rosie Ball attended Norwich and Abi, Tom, and Chris attended Lincoln.[1]

In late 2008, Abi, Rosie, and Mina also departed CakeBomb to pursue other projects. Around this time, Tom Bown, Edd Gould, John Paine, and Michael Sandford joined. They also incorporated a number of mutual friends into their films and other works, many of which made repeat appearances in Tom’s videos even after CakeBomb disbanded.[2]

Between 2009 and 2010, CakeBomb as a legitimate group was in a rocky place. Despite the growth in popularity in their videos, website (thanks to web developer Amy Guy), and other creative works and the office space rented out, the friendships that had formed the group initially were beginning to fizzle out. By the end of 2010, Tom made his leave from CakeBomb alongside Chris. The last video on Tom’s channel officially attributed to CakeBomb was War, an animated sketch part of the “TomSka and Bing” series.

At the end of 2010, the CakeBomb website would be updated one final time with a goodbye to fans, thanking them for four awesome years of content and directing them to where they could find content individually. The website itself became non-functional sometime after 2014.[1]

Currently, the link for www.CakeBomb.co.uk appears to have been purchased by a redirecting scam, and should not be used.
